Judaism - Maimonides clearly states in his Mishneh Torah (Gifts to the Poor 7:2): “Whoever sees a poor person asking [for assistance] and ignores him and does not give him tzedakah has transgressed a negative commandment as it is written ‘do not harden your heart nor shut your hand against your needy brother’” (Deuteronomy 15:7).
Zoroaster - Be good, be kind, be humane, and charitable; love your fellows; console the afflicted; pardon those who have done you wrong.
Mahavira (Jainism) - Non-violence and kindness to living beings is kindness to oneself. For thereby one's own self is saved from various kinds of sins and resultant sufferings and is able to secure his own welfare.
Buddha -Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.
Lao Tzu - Taoism - Great acts are made up of small deeds
Confucius - In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of.
